About

Unstarving Artist is not about one artist, it’s about the concept of artists everywhere making a successful living creating the art that they love and the processes they take to do so. Art is defined in a variety of ways – in reality art is truly in the eye of the beholder yet as artists we should be able to live happily creating this beauty for others.

Now how do we make art work for us?

My Name is Jen Goode (yes, goodie like gumdrops or twoshoes). I’ve been involved in art since soon after birth. I’m pretty sure my mother inhaled oil paint fumes while pregnant and I joke about knowing I wanted to make a living in art since I was “old enough to eat glue”. For years I have roamed from one facet of the art world to another and yet there are still many arenas I have to explore.  Through it all, I’ve managed to make ends meet with my art from a variety of directions and I want to share those experiences.

I’m not here to toot my own horn, quite the contrary… I am here to share what I’ve learned and continue to learn about promoting ones’ art. I don’t have all the answers by any means. I am horrible with proper terminology and usually guess at techniques. However, I have managed to provide for myself and my family using my creative side – I’d like to help you find your own direction too. The goal is to make a living doing what we love – I make a living doodling and I love every minute of it. I want you to be able to make a living doing what you love too… because life is too short to wish we were doing something else instead.

Dear Jen,
I just wanted to drop you a line and tell you how happy I am to have found your blog. I went to school for fashion design and have worked as a designer- yet I’ve been a stay at home mom for 12 years. I have a studio yet feel like I’m in some strange bubble that only I can appreciate. I think I love fashion design because you can see your work in the public and how people respond to it. Ultimately, I’m a saleswoman in a way as well. Textile repeats and design really intrigues me- I’m familiar with making digital flats (blueprints for clothes) so I look forward to taking your info and making patterns- from scanned original work- I think (probably just me) that work completely digitally produced lacks soul. Anyways thank you SO much for this blog.
Beth
